Charles Spicer family photograph collection, ca. 1904-1910.

The Charles Spicer Family Photograph Collection consists of 83 photographs and picture postcards, most of them with Alaskan subjects. One group of 11 images focuses on the Manley Hot Springs resort hotel (built 1904), the Hot Springs Post, and travel by dog team in what is likely the Manley Hot Springs area. Another group of 10 images depicts hydraulic mining activity; 3 are identified as Charles Spicer's mine, and the rest appear to depict the same locality. Unidentified images show people standing in front of log cabins and the manufacture of rough-cut boards using a standing crosscut saw and a steam-powered circular saw. Of the postcards, a group of 18 tinted cards features scenes from the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition held in Seattle, Washington, in 1909. Most of the other postcards, including a fold-out souvenir set, depict Alaskan towns, scenery, and animals.
